WHAT WE'RE WEARING: Fall Tweeds
As the leaves begin to change and we all get out PSL latte on, we tend to focus more on autumnal colors for our outfits. One amazing way to take in the browns and forest green of the fall season is through tweeds. With the 1970s making a hard resurgence on runways all around fashion month (think February and March for the AW17 shows), tweed is definitely back in fashion.
Last year, I received this amazing dress from my husband which has been seen in a few of our blog posts previously but is so wonderful we wanted to feature it on its own. It is from Mona Williams at the Mall of America and I simply adore the retro feel that it has. This dress is a midi length with a boat neck and very classic cut of the arms. It certainly looks like something you would see in the 1940s but in a 1970s pattern so naturally, I loved it. I tend to love everything with a classic shape.
It is not a tweed like you would see on say, a professor's jacket with the elbow patches, but it does have beautiful browns, blacks and greens woven through the fabric which give it an autumnal feel. It is the perfect dress to wear to the office or on a date night and you will be both warm and trendy.
I typically pair this dress with classic black pumps to add some height since it is a midi length dress and I am on the shorter side. I also love adding some color with blue pumps or going for a classic look with nude. When I do not want to be as formal, I pair it with a great pair of black or brown flats. The amazing thing about tweeds is that they are so versatile that they are almost always a perfect neutral.
Since it is the fall and we are now wearing warmer clothing, I typically wear my Burberry jacket (honestly not because it looks great but because it is the perfect fall jacket .... it also does look okay but that is not really what I was going for). For a night out, it pairs well with a great oversized scarf like the amazing Faribault Wool X Wilson and Willy's version I adore (also a gift). The blue also adds just a little more color to the overall look. At the office, it would pair well with a nice cardigan or sweater to keep you warmer.
For makeup, I typically like to pair this dress with a nude lip. I think that it is subtle yet still elegant for day or night. This dress certainly lends itself well to the understated looks of neutral makeup. The lipstick I have here is Mac Honey Love and you can look for it here.
As far as the accessories goes, gold really adds a beautiful touch and a little bit more of an autumnal feel to the ensemble. You can check out our post here for even more tips on fashion jewelry and all of the reasons it needs to be a regular part of your wardrobe.
The dress I have is from a small designer based in Europe and from what I can find, is no longer available. However, here are a few great fall tweeds that we are absolutely adoring right now. Just click the image and enjoy all of the lovely photos (courtesy of Net-A-Porter).
