Favorite aspect of fashion: Fashion is an expression of who we are at our innermost core. It is the reflection of how we want to be seen in the world. My most distinct memory where I remember fixating on the role of fashion in my life came just a few short years ago when Tim Hunt, 2001 Nobel Laureate in Physiology and Medicine for his work on cyclins, stated that women and men should be separated in the laboratory environment because women were "too distracting". Being an aspiring scientist (hence perpetual student), I worked (and still work) in the lab of a female scientist who takes pride in training excellent scientists. As I looked at the women around me, I noted the increasing trend towards leggings and white T shirts because the lack of focus on your appearance gave the impression that you were more focused on your work. But not my boss. Everyday, she is well dressed and ready for any encounter. She never looks anything less than her best. For me, this is how fashion should be. We do not express that we are tired and unprepared for the day. We wear our military jacket and booties like armor, ready to face the world.
One more thing: I love reading classics, wine and cheese nights, and brunch.
