UPCYCLING: Fashion Jewelry
It's true you know, you're never fully dressed without a smile. You're also not quite ready without the proper jewelry.
When an ensemble is nearly complete but just missing something, chances are it's in the jewelry. Obviously, it would be wonderful to march into Tiffany to pick out the perfect bracelet to really tie your whole look together. Also obviously, that's not always an option. Even though there is truly no substitute for fine jewelry, fashion (or costume) jewelry can be a fun and useful accessory to spice up your wardrobe.
An obvious advantage to fashion jewelry is the price. Everything featured in our article today is under $50. Now, don't expect a $28 pendant to become an heirloom for your future trendy granddaughter who zips around in a self-driving hovercraft...costume jewelry is not made to last forever. Often times, because of the lower-quality materials used, you'll notice that the metal will start to change color or gems will pop out. Even in costume jewelry there are many varying degrees of quality and typically price will be a prominent reflection of that. But hey, if that $28 pendant makes it through a few months of work, a couple happy hours, various Target runs, and is that go-to ensemble completing item that never lets you down, I think you got more your money's worth out of the piece.
Another fantastic advantage to inexpensive fashion jewelry is that it is a fun way to try out new trends that might not be around for long. Because of the low investment, you can easily try some of the more adventurous fads just for fun. So go for it! Try those funky front-back earrings, the mixed-materials bolo trend, and midi rings...it's all about experimenting and having fun with fashion. Here are a couple trends that we've been seeing everywhere lately: minimal design, chokers, layered/stacked looks, delicate pieces (think light chains, slight bars, small studs), tassels, bolos, leather, geometrics, and mixing different materials, metals, and finishes.
Keep in mind that it is super easy to go overboard, and as Coco Chanel said, "Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove one accessory." Really, it's the responsible thing to do.
So have fun with fashion jewelry, don't overdo it, and definitely still make sure you wear your beautiful smile.
