THROWBACK THURSDAY: Minnstafashion Official Kickoff Party

THROWBACK THURSDAY: Minnstafashion Official Kickoff Party

Last Thursday marked the start of Minnesota fashion week, which lasts until this upcoming weekend. The event is cohosted by The W at the Foshay, who hosted a swanky party to celebrate the opening of festivities in the local fashion scene, complete with bubbles and a live DJ. It is the first Minnesota Fashion Week that we have attended so naturally, we spent quite some time getting ready.

The event started with a red carpet on which the there were rotating platforms. These platforms held 5 models, each of whom donned a design exclusive to a particular local designer. One particular facet we loved: two of the designs we saw at the INSIGHT Fashion Show for the University of Minnesota earlier this year. It is wonderful to see new and upcoming designers showcasing all of their efforts. Take a look at the slideshow to see the looks from the show.

When the models were not rotating on their platforms, they were set with beautiful floral arrangements, a nod to the upcoming Art in Bloom at the MIA this weekend as well as the beginning of the spring season.

The kickoff party also included a plethora of local vendors, many of whom handmade jewelry or knits like hats and scarfs. They did not have a blanket on hand but we were informed it could be made on request. One of the advantages of working with small and local designers is that they are more flexible and usually accomodate personal requests. The other benefit is that your dollars are supporting your local economy, a notion which we just adore. Whether you are reading Sophie the Blog in the Twin Cities or from your L.A. town home or flat in Paris, you should always consider supporting local stores.

There was another fabulous store there called Luxury Garage Sale which features secondhand designer goods. This is perfect because it is still supporting a local store but you can also get those high end designers you just love. I happened to spot a Givenchy bag I have been eyeing for quite some time.

It was wonderful kickoff to the fashion week and we cannot wait to share some of the other wonderful creations and events were shared with local designers and boutiques, including some charity benefits and the opening of a new posh boutique. Check back later this week for even more on fashion week, including what we wore to the events!

There was also a green light up pole. It did not make everyones skin look nice.
