Mother of Pearl and Palmer Harding were awarded the 2017 British Fashion Council/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund. The recipients share the 200,000 pound award to expand their houses. The British Fashion Fund was restructured earlier this year to be more inclusive of a broad range of houses. Winners were announced at a reception held at London's Hotel Cafe Royal on April 4.
Mother of Pearl was founded by Maia Norman, a designer for Damien Hirst, in 2002 and is reminiscent of the designers upbringing in Northern England with 80s and 90s prints. Palmer Harding was started in 2012 by Levi Palmer and Matthew Harding, both graduates of Central Saint Martins, and focuses on shirts as an avenue to explore form and silhouette.
Glenn O'Brien, of The Style Guy, passed away this week. He was 70. O'Brien rose to fame as one of GQ's 10 most stylish men. He had originally gotten his start at Andy Warhol's factory before becoming the first Editor of Interview. After a long and prolific career, O'Brien became the Editor of Brant Publications, which included Interview, Art in America, and Antiques.
