UPCYCLING: Plain White Tees
Chances are, you have one or several of these at home laying around. If you personally do not, we can bet your boyfriend/ partner/ husband/ significant other/ friends have several. Plain white Tees are wonderful for so many reasons. They are incredibly comfortable to wear and can be incorporated to any style and look. Frequently, when I am working in the lab, I wear a plain white T with my black skinny jeans. It is just the perfect day to day wear that is still stylish, yet works for all of the numerous things I do during the day.
I tend to wear black jeans and booties almost everyday so naturally, we will start there. The T shirt is Hanes (it is my husbands so note that it in no way fits but is very comfortable and soft). Naturally, I paired it with my Aquitalia black booties (best investment ever. I wear them every day). Since black skinny jeans and booties with a white T shirt is a little boring, I like to be more interesting with the jacket. I tend to be cold everywhere I go (I lived in Vietnam for 6 months and brought 2 coats) so both of these jackets are great accessories and keep me warm during the spring.
The kimono on the left is from TopShop. I actually got it as part of a Trunk Club that my old roommate had me sign up for. I hated the service (they did not get my style) but I loved the Kimono and now I wear it with everything. The body is crepe so it is light and breathable yet still durable and warm. The sleeves are sheer which is perfect for the warming Minnesota months.
The jacket on the right is from our go to favorite, Zara. It was on sale when I bought it and naturally I am drawn to anything with a military or Alexander McQueen vibe. I wear this jacket frequently as it is but it is perfect to pair with a simple white T shirt. It adds more interest to the outfit and the gold add more color to an otherwise neutral outfit.
When I want to add a little more color or need to dress a little nicer than my black skinny jeans, I like to wear a white T with my red trousers (Banana Republic Sloane pants that I took the cuff in on.. there will probably be a The Design Studio on this later because I cannot stand cuffs that fall at the ankle bone but are not fitted. It is not classic. It just makes you look short).
These pants go great with any top or shoes. I chose my classic navy blazer with the gold buttons because I wanted a little more color for the Spring. I love all of the colors, mostly the red, because it is so bright and as you can tell from the above photos, I tend to wear a lot of black. I need to get colors in where I can.
On warmer days, I have a pair of high waisted culottes that go perfectly with a white T. The tie at the waist allows me to make sure that the T fits correctly around my figure. It is perfect for easy days spent running errands or working around the house. Since it has been warmer and I have been stressed studying for all my upcoming exams, I have been spending more time wearing these. They are so incredibly comfortable and I can put on a quick pair of flats when I need to run out for some coffee or a quick break from my work.
As the weather gets warmer, I look for outfits that are easy to put together for running errands or other daily tasks. When in doubt, wear a white T shirt or borrow one from a friend. They are incredibly versatile and can make for easy yet comfortable and stylish outfits. The first two outfits are both things I have worn to school in the last two weeks. Sometimes, it is better not to have to fuss with dresses or difficult tops and pants.
