UPCYCLING: Your SO's Shirts
When my husband and I started dating, I tried to do something nice for him and wash his shirts before he needed to leave for work. His washing machine and dryer were ancient and confusing so I had thought that I had set everything properly but it was not and I shrunk a lot of his nice shirts. Since they no longer fit him, they have become my go to shirt to wear when I am doing research or running errands.
Most of his shirts are 100 % cotton button downs and given that he is almost a foot taller than me, they tend to be fairly loose. Typically, I wear them with skirts or with my black skinny jeans as seen in this post. They are really comfortable to wear and it expands my closet to include almost twice and many shirts (he also has really nice sweaters I wear).
When styling a shirt such as your SO's, I try to wear more slimming pieces to prevent it from look oversized. I wore my black skinny jeans because it still keeps the line of the outfit more in proportion with my frame. I also wear them almost every day.... they are definitely my go to pant of choice. A simple belt or accessory can bring the waist in so that they fit you better. Mens shirts are cut straighter than womens and will not fit curves as well unless they have a belt or are tucked into something.
I have also worn them with pencil skirts for a more professional look and with mini skirts for day to day wear on warmer days. Scarfs also make great accessories on days when it is cool outside or you want to add a little bit more color and interest.
When I was doing the photos for this post, it was rather cold outside so I also paired it with my beloved Burberry jacket and Aquitalia black suede booties (they are weather treated so they are perfect for chilly days). Together, it is an easy ensemble to throw together on my way out the door for early morning meetings and a day of research. It is also perfect for days when I am out interacting with our chicks.
