WHAT WE'RE WEARING: Rompers
Rompers are the item to have for Summer 2017. There is even an Instagram hashtag for it. We have all seen the mens rompers that are also becoming popular. Essentially, you need to add a romper to your summer wardrobe. Note, they are the same thing as a playsuit
Given my affinity for jumpsuits, I gravitate toward rompers as well in the summer. I have a few that I picked up last summer, as seen in this post, as well as a few more that I found for an upcoming trip that I am going on. They are one of the easiest things to wear and I feel like I almost live in them on warm days. It has been 85 + in Minneapolis the past few days and I have worn a romper every day. They are the greatest.
Rompers can be both formal and casual depending on the style and the material. The one that I am featuring in this post is 100 % cotton and almost screams beach wear so you can imagine that I am not wearing it out on the town for night time dinner dates with James or to work during the day. I did wear it to Grand Ole Days, a Minnesota summer right of passage, but it is more for causal wear than anything else. I also tend to wear it a lot when I am sewing or painting.
One of the things that I adore about this romper is that it is light and comfortable to wear. The material is soft and light so that it does not feel constrictive and it is never too hot. The belt can be changed to accessorize it but I also enjoy the matching tie belt. It gives the piece a bit more shape and allows it to conform better to my figure.
When I am accessorizing it, I tend to wear a lot of sun hats in the summer ever since Lisa and I started taking Lemonade breaks at work because we felt we were getting shafted on time off because we did not take smoke breaks. It was the best part of that entire summer. Either way, over the years, I have accumulated a small collection of hats that I love. The one that I am wearing here is from a store called Bailey's in New Orleans. It is a milliner that has been around since 1922 and they make beautiful hats. My husband brought 2 back for me the last time he was there.
The romper is Banana Republic from last summer. I got it when it was on clearance and have loved and enjoyed it ever since. As far as the shoes that I wear, usually, it is the summer so I wear flats or sandals with it. Recently, I have been loving these tie flats that I picked up one time when I was wearing heels for too long and my feet were hurting terribly. They are from Target (because they have everything) and the blue color goes perfectly with so many of my outfits.
I tend to just wear my watch with this romper but fashion jewelry as seen in our previous post would also look stunning and add some visual interest to the outfit (I have a really bad nickel allergy so I generally tend not to wear fashion jewelry as much because it has to be platinum and it is really, really expensive for most of the things that I want... still love it thought!). Long chain necklaces (20 - 24") would look beautiful as would many gold pieces. It would keep the outfit summer and warm looking and add just a little extra to the overall ensemble.
