WHAT WE'RE WEARING: Cold Shoulders
Cold shoulders have been a hot topic in the fashion world for the past few seasons with a love / hate relationship. Since they first started becoming popular, neither of us have been fans of the trend. This summer, we decided to try and give it a chance with some of our summer go to outfits to see if we can make it work in our wardrobe.
First things first, some pieces have cutout shoulders and some have like honest to goodness cold shoulders, where they are entirely missing a shoulder. Depending on the type that you choose, you need to be aware of the undergarments you are going to need: either a strapless bra or petals or some other piece so that there are no visible straps. No one wants to see that and it can ruin the line of an outfit.
Cold shoulder tops can be wonderful because they can be both elegant and formal or casual for every day wear. I have a particular jump suit that I have worn both to class, to a wedding and to a fashion show. I wore a dress to play mini golf and to a night out dinner with family (pictured in this post). It is all about the accessories and other pieces you wear with it. For day to day, I pair it with simple sandals or flats. For a night out on a warm summer night, my Stuart Weitzmann wedges are perfect to dress it up and pair with red lipstick.
However, not all of them are as versatile so just be conscious of how you are going to mix your pieces with your current wardrobe. A few great items that pair well with any cold shoulder top are black cigarette pants (a favorite staple of Sophie the Blog) and shorts or short skirts. I have also seen some beautiful outfits with wide or ruffled dress pants (check the Proenza Schouler link for an example). These are wonderful outfits for a night out and can be worn with so many different accessories.
