UPCYCLING: School Wear
Whenever a new school years starts, I am always prompted to replace essentially my entire wardrobe with the excuse of a new semester and new trends. Unfortunately, since I also take classes that start the second week of August, those trends have not changed. Even though pre fall is coming out to impress, it is still 85 degrees and warm during the summer months.
I have the added bonus of starting some of my classes in August (for example: today) and some of my classes in September. I will still get the rush of getting new clothes for the new term, but for now I am going to have to postpone my shopping extravaganza. To that end, here are a few looks to try for school with some staples you already have in your wardrobe.
The Madewell Dress
I originally purchased this dress in 2015. It is made of heavier material that is perfect for those rainy days as well as making the transition to fall. The heavy material can keep you warm in those rooms where the air conditioning is just not set right yet (even though it is August. Hello Moos Tower ... how hard can this be?). It is also comfortable for those long first days listening to professors review the syllabi and course objectives. Not to mention, it is the perfect dress to act as a canvas for accessories. The gray colors are appropriate for the transition to fall and it is a spectacular material to wear during the evening.
Longchamp Le Pliage Tote
This is actually just the perfect tote for the school year / work period. I purchased my first one in 2012 and have never looked back. These bags hold absolutely everything that you could possibly need, from your trusted iPad for note taking to those heavy textbooks you need to lug to class before you inevitably start to just leave them at home and deal with the consequences.
I pair this with everything, from black skinny jeans and plain white tees to my embroidered shirt and navy skirt combination. It is the perfect school bag for any outfit as well as being completely functional.
Zara Skinny Jeans
I have several pairs of Zara black skinny jeans and I love all of them. They are an easy addition to any outfit and pair perfectly with almost anything (including that Longchamp bag). For the first day of school, to keep it trendy and on point, pair it with your favorite embroidered shirt (like this one from Zara).
Another Madewell favorite that I have from previous seasons is this light cotton striped Tee. It has a wider cut that is incredible comfortable (and hides the stress eating well). It also pairs perfectly with navy skirts and black skinny jeans, two of my favorite things. The light hardy stripe lends itself well to warm gold accessories for the late summer start of classes and yet it is not as overstated or ultra trendy as the embroidered shirts. It is almost like they say "I am here. I am ready for school and I am not stressing about it in the least". I paired it here with my Banana Republic navy skirt which has a slightly asymmetrical hem just to be a little bit extra.
Sophie is an added treat because she just looked so cute in the early morning sun before I left for class!
