WHAT WE'RE WEARING: Céline Trapeze Bag
For Christmas this year, my incredible husband got me the Céline trapeze bag. I thought now was the perfect time to write a post on it since we recently just witnessed Hédi Slimane leaving Yves Saint Laurent for Céline and the former creative director, Phoebe Philo, exiting the house. Slimane will mean a revolution for Céline and the introduction of menswear to the French house.
One of the bags that she created while still at Céline was the Trapeze bag. It comes in a few different sizes (mine is medium - thanks James!) but is crafted in high quality calf skin and able to assume a few different shapes. The sides of the bags fold out to create a larger spaced bag that is capable of accommodating all of the items that you need to carry with you when traveling or going about your day. There are small snaps in the sides to keep it in the folded out position though it does decrease the amount of space within the bag. The alternative is that the bags is not as secured or closed off if the snaps are not closed.
The trapeze bag can also be worn with the sides tucked into the bag like a more traditional medium sized tote. For me, who adores classic lines and high quality craftsmanship, I prefer the sides tucked into the bag. However, this is not the case for everyone and one of the reasons that this bag has been able to attract so many women. There are just so many options!
When opened through its geometric clasps, the bag also offers an interior zip for added privacy in your bag. There is a back pocket that is perfect for storing small thin items like cash, cards or the odd cell phone (if it is flat and small enough to fit). Inside the bag, there are two pockets in the back that are ideal for business cards or other accoutrements that you require during the day, such as lipstick. Otherwise, it is a large open space that is perfect for holding a notebook, cell phone, wallet and anything else that you require.
I love that the version he bought me is this incredible royal blue. I tend to wear a lot of black and when I am not wearing black, I still stick to neutrals. The blue color adds a pop of color against all of my ensembles and looks either dressed up or down depending on the outfit.
One feature that I also adore about this bag is that the shoulder strap is removable. It is easy to convert it into a tote that you carry over your arm for a night out or to a shoulder bag to carry with you to meetings and on the odd errands that you run during the day.
Though it is more of an investment piece, the quality of Céline is well worth the money that it costs. The leather is thick yet pliable and wears well. It is durable and easy to clean. The zippers and straps feel incredibly strong and are capable of withstanding the weight of everything I carry with my every day. No doubt, this was one of the best Christmas presents I have received and I know that I will be able to use it for seasons to come!
